Government eyes 41 million tree seedlings in the 2025/2026 National Forestry Season

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining, through the Department of Forestry (DoF), says the 2025/2026 National Forestry Season will start on 15th December to 15th April next year.

A letter signed by Secretary for Natural Resources, Energy and Mining, Richard Perekamoyo, says the National Forest Season aims to promote tree planting, forest conservation, and sustainable forest management practices across the country.

Perekamoyo further said that during the 2025/2026 National Forestry Season, the country targets to plant 41,000,000 tree seedlings on degraded land and forests.

The Ministry further encouraged Malawians to participate in tree planting and management activities across the country.

The statement further reminded different stakeholders not only to plant and restore forests but also to foster a collective responsibility to protect and sustainably manage natural resources.

Held under the theme "Trees and Forests for Community Resilience", the statement says this year's theme reflects on how trees and forests contribute to strengthening communities and their ability to cope with climatic, environmental, economic, and social challenges.
