The Clergy challenges youths to refrain from perpetrating political violence as campaign heats up

The newly enthroned Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi, the very Reverend Daniel Kalonga has urged youths to refrain from being used by political parties to incite violence during the campaign period.

Bishop Kalonga made the remarks on Thursday during the opening of the 2025 Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi Youth Rally at Bishop Mtekateka secondary school in Nkhotakota District.

Kalonga further called upon the youth to be agents of change and lead by example in their communities.

“The world is crowded with moral decay starting within families, schools, business places and the workplace, hence we need to allow God to drive us and do his will," Kalonga said.

In his remarks President of the Anglican Youth Diocese of Lake Malawi, Joseph Malinga said the event which has so far registered 1,150 youths will help youths change their life’s and get closer to God.

He further urged the diocese to help the youth in addressing financial challenges and providing education scholarships.

“Despite the challenges we are facing so far, we have tried our best to solve some of the challenges by providing business capital to the youths as well as encouraging them to engage in farming activities to earn a living," he said.

Malinga articulated they have lined up a number of events including sports, charity works and clean up exercise within Nkhotakota market.

Under the theme Go and Make a difference Luke 20; 37, the Youth Rally is expected to end on 10th August 2025.
