The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Director of Legal Affairs, who is also Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Chipiliro Mpinganjira, has dismissed criticism that President Arthur Peter Mutharika’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) lacked strategies to address the country’s challenges, describing such claims as baseless and misleading.
Mpinganjira made the remarks in Lilongwe during the 52nd Session of Parliament.
He described the SONA as a strategic blueprint aimed at restoring and rebuilding Malawi’s economy.
“The SONA is centred on restoring Malawi’s lost economic glory, and under His Excellency Professor Mutharika’s leadership, Malawi is on the right track to recovery,” said Mpinganjira.
He added that critics of the address have chosen to ignore the practical steps the government has already taken within a short period of time.
The Deputy Minister further highlighted what he described as key achievements made within four months of the government being in power, including the improved availability of maize, fuel, and foreign exchange.
He also called on Malawians to rally behind the President’s agenda.
“We urge all Malawians to support the SONA and work together in ensuring that the President’s plans for national development are successfully implemented,” he said.
