It is false that Former HRDC Chairperson, now AFORD Vice President Timothy Mtambo is planning for the anti-government protests

ᴄʟᴀɪᴍ A Facebook post by the Africans Magazine, Malawi Voice and Ticheze Media among many pages are alleging that Timothy Mtambo, a former Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson, currently serving as Vice President for the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) plans to return to HRDC and hold national protests against the current government. ʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟᴇ Umunthu FM’s Checkpoint Desk gathered evidence surrounding the allegations and found that are false. To arrive at this conclusion, the team engaged Timothy Mtambo through a phone call, who refuted the claim linking to alleged planned protests and/or intending to return to the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC). Mtambo described the rumours as “cheap propaganda and complete false”, adding that his focus is on supporting AFORD, an alliance partner of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to deliver to Malawians and cannot hold demonstrations against the government. He added that he has no intention to return to HRDC as he left the organization five years ago, stressing that the organization has its own structures and leadership.
