Aspiring Independent Candidate for Nkhotakota Central Constituency, Susan Kakota Mussa says if elected, she will introduce teacher incentives and remedial classes to improve education standards in Nkhotakota District.
Mussa made the remarks during a press briefing in the district, where she outlined key points from her manifesto.
She notes that the district is underperforming in education, and such initiatives would motivate teachers while supporting students who are struggling in class.
On health, Mussa pledged to ensure a steady supply of essential medicines, promote mobile clinics, and implement programs aimed at discouraging risky behaviors among the youth factors she says are contributing to rising cases of teen pregnancies and early marriages in the district.
"The recent reports about the alarming figures of Teen pregnancies is a disappointment development," she said.
She adds that there are some bad cultural norms that need to be abolished for students in the area to perform better.
"This is one of my agenda that I will tackle once voted into power, but I know it is not easy as such it will need much effort as change does not happen abruptly," she added.
Mussa believes that with collaboration and awareness campaigns some of the problems that are experienced in area that are contributing to teen marriages and early marriages.
Mussa has since appealed to the people of Nkhotakota to vote for change, prioritizing development over familiarity.
"Familiarity politics is not ideal to those who want development. People need to choose wisely and not compromise "she said.
Mussa says she is optimistic to deliver in agriculture sector by ensuring advanced technological irrigation method as well as ensuring inputs and markets are easily accessible to farmers.
