Sun King strengthens Malawi’s off-grid energy access

Sun King, one of the leading provider of renewable energy solutions, has announced that it has reached over 180,000 households across Malawi through its solar products and services.

The remarks were made on Friday in Lilongwe during the launch of the company’s refreshed logo and marketing campaign, which aims to strengthen customer engagement and highlight Sun King’s growth journey.

In his remarks, Collings Moyo, Marketing Lead for Sun King described the development as a major milestone, saying the new branding reflects the company’s improved services and continued commitment to meeting customer needs.

Commenting on the development, Regional Business Manager for the Southern Region, Matilda Mponda expressed excitement over the company’s progress, emphasizing the reliability of its products.

She noted that all purchases come with a two-year warranty but acknowledged that foreign exchange shortages pose challenges to operations, as most products are imported.

Meanwhile, Brave Mhone, President of the Renewable Energy Industries of Malawi (REIMA), commended Sun King for its contribution to bridging energy gaps with renewable solutions.

He, however, highlighted challenges such as limited capital and financing for expansion, calling for stronger partnerships and supportive policies to drive sector growth.

Mhone added that the uptake of solar energy in Malawi is remarkable and demonstrates the importance of off-grid solutions, hence the need for policies and incentives that can accelerate the growth of the renewable energy industry despite ongoing government interventions.

Since its establishment in Malawi 15 years ago, Sun King has expanded its reach to 14 areas nationwide and plans to extend its services to even more households in the coming years.
