The Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM) says it has not received any official complaint of online bullying from female Musicians in the country.
MUM President, Vita Chirwa said that although the association has come across social media posts from some artists complaining of cyberbullying , none of them have formally reported such cases to the Union.
Chirwa further urged Malawians to desist from online bullying, noting that it lowers self-confidence and hinders personal growth.
His remarks follow a recent Facebook post by female musician Tunosiwe Mwakalinga, popularly known as Tuno, who expressed disappointment over the bullying she faces, particularly body shaming.
In her Facebook post, Tuno revealed that she was tired of being bullied and body-shamed.
"People seem to hate what l do, with that l have decided to quit music," Tuno said.
Meanwhile, legendary musician, Wendy Harawa has called for the full enforcement of cybersecurity laws to hold perpetrators of online bullying accountable.
Malawi passed the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act of 2016, which, among other provisions, protects online users from abusive content, cyber harassment, and cyberbullying.
